Chlorine dioxide is a powerful disinfectant which is used as an alternative to chlorine in drinking water and swimming pools. It is also used as a bleaching agent in the paper industry and as a biocide in industrial cooling waters and in the food industry. Chlorine dioxide is more oxidising than chlorine.
